Video TIPS

The most frequent problems I run into with videos sent to me:

(or I’ve things I learned by screwing it up over the years… I.E. The Stacy Westfall clip… Sorry Stacy !)

· POOR LIGHTING, usually from videoing in an indoor arena on a rainy day

TIP: Make sure the arena lights are on and your camera is            set for low light situations

· CAMERA SHAKE from hand holding and panning with the horse

TIP: Use a tripod or at a minimum, brace your arms on a            fence or other solid object to steady your hands.  Also, try            and shoot from one end of the arena so you get more of the            entire arena and with less “panning.”

· ZOOM CRAZY

TIP: A little zoom goes a long way.  Too much zoom is            distracting and makes it easier to lose the horse while            videoing.  As the horse moves away from you, toward the            other end of the arena, zoom some so you can still see the            movement of the horse… just not back and forth too much.

Example of Poor Lighting

The video of Stacy Westfall was shot indoors with the camera NOT set to low lighting and it was an overcast, cold day so the arena lights didn’t have time to warm up to come on properly.  Nice video… bad lighting.
